The Pope says "I call," asking where the technological race is heading as it pushes ethics aside.

Project Stargate – the massive, $500 billion investment in data centers, computing power, and supercomputers – was announced by OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank. Its name naturally echoes the science fiction films and series in which scientists and the military join forces, using a stargate to unlock humanity's secrets and battle hostile alien races.

Colossus is the supercomputer built in 2024 by Elon Musk's xAI to train Grok. The name harks back to the powerful supercomputer from a 1970 film, built to defend the United States. In the film, the computer achieves self-awareness, links up with its Soviet counterpart, and seizes control of the world, judging humanity too dangerous to be trusted to govern itself.
