Ozempic Changes Lives. But Not Everyone's in the Same Way
GLP-1 analogues have transformed the treatment of obesity and the lives of many patients. But the popularity of Ozempic and Mounjaro also reveals something uncomfortable about a new ideal of thinness, class inequality, and a market that sells hope at a high price.

Comedian Nikki Glaser welcomed guests to the 82nd Golden Globes as "Ozempic's biggest night." As the Wall Street Journal reported in 2022, the innovative diabetes drug had become "Hollywood's drug of choice," coveted by elites eager to shed a few kilos. Among those speaking publicly about using this new generation of drugs were Kathy Bates, Rebel Wilson, Tori Spelling, Stephen Fry, and Elon Musk.
